WHO WE ARE
Lindsey Kemp is a born and raised Edmontonian where she lives with her husband, Randy, her son, George, and her two dogs, Brinkley and Goose.
Lindsey studied at the University of Alberta where she received a Bachelor of Music (Saxophone) and a Bachelor of Education. She graduated in 2008 and immediately received a position from Edmonton Public School Board. In 2008 she started her teaching career at Ross Sheppard High School teaching Band, Guitar and English. In 2009, she found her home at Queen Elizabeth High School and Major General Griesbach School teaching Band, Choir and Jazz Band, and this is where she stayed until her maternity leave in 2016.
In her spare time, Lindsey is very involved in the Edmonton music community. She is a member of the Edmonton Winds and has been for 10 years. She sits on the Alberta Band Association Board of Directors, and she is a busy saxophone clinician and conductor throughout Edmonton and area.
When she is not performing or teaching, Lindsey enjoys playing Dodgeball, Soccer and taking her dogs on walks. She is also very involved with the Stollery Children's Hospital and has created a fundraiser (Big Gifts for Little Lives) where all proceeds goes towards Pediatric Heart Transplant since her son received a heart transplant in 2017.
Darwin Krips has been a junior and senior high school band, jazz band, guitar and choral teacher over the past 28 years, creating high quality programs receiving numerous awards.
He plays first euphonium for the Edmonton Winds, subs for the Mill Creek Colliery Brass Band and has sung with the Da Camera Singers and Pro Coro Edmonton. He has been on the board of the Alberta Band Association for 10 years.
Darwin works for Sturgeon Public School Division and teaches at Sturgeon Composite High School where he currently is a vice principal and choir teacher. His groups have toured internationally and have won numerous local awards.
Darwin is a passionate music educator; the Beer League Community Band was started from a desire to continue working with bands as he began his journey into school administration.
“Music is a skill for life, so it is gratifying to see our players return to band to continue making music, making new friends and rekindling a lifelong passion.”
Darwin lives in St. Albert with his wife Crystal, their two girls Alicia and Lauren and their dog Sage. When Darwin is not playing or teaching, he enjoys spending time with his family, cooking, camping and BBQing on one of his three BBQ's! (Don't get him started!)
